ANTICHE AZIENDE CANOSINE is the name of a new wine producer firm created by Del Vento family and the entrepreneur Manfred Geier. The tradition of Del Ventos dates back to the end of the 18th century, when the founder Mr Giuseppe Del Vento bought one hectare of ground in the country around Canosa di Puglia from the Governor of the Reign of Sicily. The piece of land was in a hilly area around the river Ofanto, one of the oldest river of Apulia. This area is the oldest one used for the cultivation of “Nero di Troia” grapes. This vine is very old as it dates back to the Ancient Greece when many Greeks founded their colonies in the area of the river Ofanto. The ancient Romans called the hills of this area “Genius Loci”. Today Antiche Aziende Canosine is the result of an old tradition of wine producers like the Del Ventos and Mr Geier’s passion for Apulian wines. The whole production is directly carried out by the Del Vento brothers, supervised by the agronomist Sabino Del Vento. Cultivations extend on an area of about 30 hectares in the typical territory of “Rosso Canosa DOC” in a hilly Mediterranean frame. Vineyards stand from 250 to 350 metres on the sea level, on calcareous and tufa grounds.
